Zinc
The Male Mineral

If you're a man, you need plenty of it! For prostate health, the need for adequate Zinc is well documented. It is often referred to as "The Male Mineral".

Oysters used to be highly esteemed as an aphrodisiac and male sexual rejuvenation food. Oysters are a rich source of this essential mineral! Did you know your prostate contains more of it than any other organ in your body? It's true!

A Deficiency Can Cause
Impotence and Infertility

Zinc is required for the production of sperm and seminal fluid. Scientists tell us there are more biological roles for this trace mineral than all other trace minerals combined! It is also believed to play a critical role in regulating normal cell growth and in immune system functions.

In a study of over 5000 patients, Dr. Irving Bush of The Chicago Medical School and the researchers for Cook County Hospital found that:

Zinc Prevents Prostate Enlargement

If you suffer from BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) or prostatitis, you know what that can mean to you!

Foods rich sources include: Oysters, shellfish, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, nuts, wheat germ and bran, brewer's yeast, beans, peas, lentils, onions and molasses.

Another usually unknown fact is,

Excessive Sexual Activity
May Lead To
Zinc Depletion

Again, this is why too much sexual activity can cause prostatitis and prostate swelling. Total abstinence from sex is not healthy for your prostate gland. Too much does you no good either.

Infection and stress also lower blood serum levels of zinc and lower prostate levels in particular.

In prostatitis, zinc levels are only ONE-TENTH of those in a normal prostate. (Fair and Heston,1977; Pfeiffer, 1978) In scientific study, for prostatitis, therapeutic doses of 50-100mgs have been used for 2 weeks to 4 months. There was prompt improvement in 70% of the cases.

You will never overdose on it from the food rich sources. You can overdose with large supplemental amounts. And, men who consumed over 100mgs per day (in supplement form) for over 10 years or more were found to have twice the occurance of agressive prostate cancer.

One of my Dad's great wisdoms was: "Just because some is good does not mean a lot more is better."

Eat the good foods. Supplement in moderation.

Be well!
